Walk from the Door…
This gentle walk takes you through the beautiful Derbyshire countryside to the pretty villages of both Birchover and Winster. The route follows a rough Figure of 8 shape with Westhills Courtyard at the centre, which means that you can choose to do both loops for a longer walk or just one for a shorter stroll. The Birchover Loop (3.3 miles) takes you along parts of the Limestone Way, on country lanes and across field paths, passing close to the fascinating rock formations of Robin Hood’s Stride and Rowtor Rocks, before returning to the cottage. There are pubs for refreshments at the halfway point of Birchover. The Winster Loop (2.5 miles) also follows part of the Limestone Way and takes you on field paths high above the Derwent Valley with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside, before returning to the cottage via the halfway point of Winster, which has two pubs and a village shop, as well as a National Trust information centre and small museum.
